Happy National Hot Tea Month! This seemed the perfect time to confess – I have a new tea crush. Nothing will ever replace my love of an exquisite jasmine brew, but this blend from Steve Smith comes surprisingly close to being on par. Preserve is a masterful mix of Spring harvested green from China, lemon myrtle, hyssop and elderflower. The last two ingredients provide the to die for aromatic flavor. I’ve been an elderflower fan for years and am happy to see it being used here with wonderful results. (This No. 100 blend also includes a minute amount of jasmine tea which is nice but virtually undetectable.) The packaging describes the blend as a “tropical vacation” but I sense forest and pine in my cup. Mmmm … wonderfully clear and reviving. Now for the downside: Preserve is a custom blend created for Elephants Deli and only available at their locations. If you’re lucky enough to live in the Portland area, be sure to stop in and order a cup or bring home a box ($16). If you’re not a local and want to give it a try, let me know and I’ll be happy to send you a sachet. Here’s to happy sipping during tea month … and beyond!
